In 1985 Hartge was granted manufacturer's status in Germany, meaning they could release their own vehicles. All vehicles built from then on received a Hartge Motorsport VIN plate in place on the BMW VIN plate with a selection of other few tastey options!

Until the year 1987, sales were made by the big BMW dealer Kohl Automobile, which then cooperated with the company Schnitzer. Herbert Hartge continued the company in Beckingen. His brothers Rolf and Andreas founded the company Carlsson Autotechnik in 1989, a tuner for Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
